Sabah will follow national lockdown, says Masidi - The Star Online

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah will follow the two-week national lockdown from June 1 to 14 as announced by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

“Looking at the statistics and the escalating trend in daily Covid-19 cases in our own state (Sabah), I don’t think we have much options,” state Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) said.

He was referring to 308 new cases on Friday (May 28) amid a daily three-figure increase over the last ten days since May 18.

He explained the PMO announcement was for a national lockdown of the social and economic sectors except essential sectors.

“We will probably have some adjustments to the SOPs,” he said when asked if Sabah will follow a similar lockdown like the rest of the country.

Sabah had previously set its own restrictions on SOPs for various sectors of business. Most decisions on its SOPs was made in consultation with the National Security Council that differed from peninsular Malaysia.

Sabah’s key decisions so far Covid 19 control measures was to keep the economy operating while placing restrictions via SOPs on social and businesses operations.
