Saudi Arabia admits journalist died in consulate
Saudi Arabia, after weeks of indecision and international condemnation, finally admitted the missing journalist was killed in the consulate in Istanbul.
“Discussions between citizen Jamal Khashoggi and those who met him while he was in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul led to a quarrel and a physical confrontation, which resulted in his death,” the statement said, citing the preliminary findings of the investigation.
Turkey has also changed its version of the story, saying Khashoggi was killed by strangulation after a dispute.
No details have emerged of what the dispute was about, but the official version will be death by strangulation.
However, as long as the body is still missing, the truth will not be told.
On Saturday morning, Saudi Arabia announced the death of missing journalist Jamal Khashoggi, saying a preliminary investigation indicated he lost his life after a fight at the Saudi consulate.
18 Saudis have been arrested in connection with the incident, the public prosecutor said.
The country also removed two officials from their official posts. The deputy intelligence chief Ahmed Al-Asiri has been removed from his position at the General Intelligence Agency and Saud Al-Qahtani from his advisory role at the Royal Court, the decrees ordered.
