Scaling Impact & Driving Sustainable Finance Towards A Nature-Positive Economy
Driven by the pandemic, the ASEAN region is increasingly embracing digital transformation for a nature-positive economy. However, while national and private leaders around the world have made green and sustainable development among their top priorities, and have committed to investing in a new energy economy, translating commitments to action is no simple undertaking.
The upcoming Go ESG ASEAN 2021 virtual conference on 24 & 25 November 2021 will discuss these challenges to:
- Understand the current digital landscape in ASEAN and the available business opportunities, which arise from incorporating sustainability-related technologies into business operations and supply chain management
- Gain insights on how technology can be used by business leaders to address the triple planetary crisis, shape the sustainable finance ecosystem and accelerate the SDGs
- Be exposed to the latest impactful innovations/technologies which ASEAN leaders can explore to drive their sustainability objectives
“Our world as we know is facing a triple planetary crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution, all of which started way before the pandemic arose. ASEAN faces the same problems as other regions, with the additional risk that the crisis will likely increase poverty, conflict and migration,” said Faroze Nadar, Executive Director of UN Global Compact Network Malaysia & Brunei (UNGCMYB), organisers of the 2-day conference.
“Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, analytics and cloud computing are playing an increasingly important role in supporting environmental protection, improving the lives of billions and accelerating the sustainable development goals (SDGs), but we need to appreciate how it can work in the ASEAN context,” he said.
Understanding the important role of technology in solving our planet’s issues, the conference has assembled a distinguished panel to discuss The Role of Technology in Scaling Impact/Driving Sustainable Finance. The panel will dive into:
- How organisations (large/MSMEs) can leverage technology to scale SDG impact
- Whether ASEAN’s tech ecosystem is coordinated enough to push sustainability and how the region can collaborate to enable a better balance in economic growth, environmental protection and promote sustainable development through technology
- Whether sustainability-related innovations in ASEAN are adequately funded and if measures to address specific investments in promising, yet possibly unproven solutions to global sustainability challenges, are sufficiently supported
- The availability of good data in ASEAN that remains a big challenge as the process of ESG data acquisition is manual, cumbersome and costly, in addition to a lack of transparency in the verification and reporting process. What are some solutions for effective data acquisition to ensure its timeliness, traceability and accuracy?
These issues will be discussed by:
- Girish Ramachandran, President, Tata Consultancy Services Asia Pacific
- Samira Khan, Director of Citizenship & Market Development, Microsoft
- Jonathan Tsuen Yip Wong, Chief of Technology and Innovation, Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, UNESCAP
- Mahadhir Aziz, Chief Executive Officer, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation.
Meanwhile, the panel will be moderated by Tunku Alina Alias, Founding Member of Climate Governance Malaysia.
With over 2,000 participants expected from around the region and more than 30 global speakers, this is a must-attend event for leaders seeking inspiration and clarification to bring corporate and national visions to life.
