Dr Sudesh Lallchand wooed by Labour?
Dr Jawaharlall Lallchand is another name that the Labour Party expects to catch.
Mr Lallchand, also known as Sudesh Lallchand is the chair of the Mauritius Shipping Corporation Ltd.
He is close to MSM top-gun Nando Bodha, we are told.
Bodha is also on the Labour party’s list.
The Labour is in a drive to sign-up a short-list of well-known elements.
The short-list is the handy work of Labour leader Dr Navin Ramgoolam.
The aim is to prepare for a solo run in the next General Elections.
The party is upbeat that its chances to defeat all the other political formations in Mauritius are real.
A party insider told WFTV the Labour estimates it can win over 50 seats if it were to go it alone in the GE.
Pressure is mounting on the MSM leadership to call for snap-polls.
But PM Pravind Jugnauth is adamant he can finish his term.
WFTV will publish another story on why he believes so.
A movement has grown within the Labour saying it does not need any allies.
“It is going to be checkmate for the other parties,” said the source to WFTV.
The source also said the Labour has the confidence of a role of dominance in an alliance.
“But at this stage, an alliance with the MSM is totally out of the question.
“If we want to talk of an alliance with the PMSD or MMM, it will depend on many things,” said the source.
He said the PMSD and the MMm have lost their glean and credibility after the December by-elections.
“They fared so badly that they are in a position of begging if they want an alliance with the Labour,” says he.
WFTV reported that the Labour is looking forward to rope in a few big names on the political scene.
Besides the names mentioned above, there is also Mr Pradeep Jeeha from the MMM.
The LP is busy to have him on board.
It appears he will be given a Labour seat in the next elections.
