Sunway and SDSN Funding New Sustainable Solutions

Sunway and SDSN Funding New Sustainable Solutions

Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, 20 January 2022 – Malaysian conglomerate Sunway Group and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network Malaysia, in partnership to fund sustainable solution.

Sunway Group and (SDSN) Malaysia are in partnership with the All-Party Parliamentary Group of Malaysia on Sustainable Development Goals (APPGM-SDG).

Together they will be hosting the National Solutions Forum 2022 in April. The event will showcase the most impactful solutions to SDG-related challenges in Malaysia.

Sunway will fund shortlisted solutions with RM10,000 each to scale its impact. Meanwhile, the best solution initiative will get a further RM10,000.

Engendering the theme of Wellbeing, the inaugural NSF is calling for change-makers, innovators and individuals seeking to deliver innovative solutions. Moreover, their solutions will be used to advance the wellbeing of the planet and its people.

All submitted solution initiatives will be reviewed by a shortlisting committee assembled by the SDSN Malaysia Secretariat. A hybrid event with virtual attendees and a limited number of in-person attendees will then showcase nine shortlisted solutions.

The National Solutions Forum is modelled after SDSN’s Global Solutions Forum inaugurated in September 2019 in New York City. All together, the NSF will be an action-oriented event where stakeholders come together to promote sustainable development solutions.

Progressive Solutions

VP for Asia & Head of SDSN’s Kuala Lumpur Office, Professor Woo Wing Thye, says the NST is looking for progressive solutions.

“SDSN encourages its members and network to develop innovative and sustainable real-world solutions. The aim is to address challenges related to sustainable development and the SDGs.

“This year, the National Solutions Forum seeks to identify and implement progressive solutions that can advance the SDGs.”

Nevertheless, he says the current global pandemic and natural disasters demonstrates an increase in urgency to address SDG issues.

Meanwhile, proposal submissions are open until February 11, 2022. To register or for more information, visit sdsn.org.my/nsf2022.

The Jeffrey Cheah Foundation made commitments US$20 million to the UN. It is part of Sunway’s commitment to nation-building and advancing the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The UN-SDSN at Sunway City KL is one of three global centres, alongside New York City and Paris. On the other hand, it co-ordinates continent-wide sustainability initiatives.
