Toy Company Criticized for Exaggerated Facial Features on Black Dolls

An Australian mother has criticized a toy company for 'exaggerating' facial features on its black dolls but not on its white ones. However, she praised Kmart for its diversity range, including a black doll with more realistic features. 

The Daily Mail states that the mother said it is important to get the representation right, and buying a realistic black doll from Kmart is the better option. Online commenters have also praised Kmart's inclusive range, including dolls with Down Syndrome, and called out the toy company for not doing enough. 

Overall, it seems that Kmart's efforts to promote inclusivity are well received by shoppers, with many praising the retailer for its efforts to provide a range of diverse toys.

In addition to this, some users justify the toy company’s decision to mould the dolls in such a way that facial features are different among races. Some users shared their opinion regarding the situation. They feel as though the company was being rather realistic than “White washing” the dolls. 

Some users made bold claims citing that Black people dislike how they look, which is something that is undetermined. Other users state that the doll does look exaggerated with the facial features. 

Following that, some users suggest the best way is to boycott the toy company as it can seem offensive. However, some users add that it is fair to call out the company for making a wrong move as offensive caricatures of Black people have been around for centuries.
