Trouble brewing in Johor between PH and Umno

There is growing dissatisfaction among Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) grassroots members in Johor after they were not given state or local council positions despite helping Barisan Nasional (BN) win the recent Mahkota by-election.

Although PH members contributed significantly to BN’s win, Johor remains the only state in Peninsular Malaysia where PH has no representatives in state or local councils. DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke acknowledged the issue but explained that Johor’s current government was established before the 2022 general election, and PH did not propose a unity government for Johor.

Despite this, some local DAP members feel PH should secure positions in the future, with the potential for negotiation when current local councillors’ terms expire at the end of 2025. Read the full story on ST
