Wear double face masks, face shields, says Noor Hisham - Free Malaysia Today

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry encourages the public to wear double face masks or a face shield when in crowded public spaces or high-risk areas.

In a press conference today, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said double face masks were 95% effective in preventing Covid-19 infections.

He also advised medical personnel or staff working in hospitals to wear three-ply or N95 face masks, instead of fabric ones.

Noor Hisham said the use of double face masks and face shields was encouraged as the virus can also spread while airborne.

Speaking at the same press conference, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob stressed that face masks remained compulsory for even those wearing niqabs (face veils) and face shields.

He said it was an offence under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) if a person wearing a niqab did not have a face mask underneath.
