I will fire Wenger after I buy Arsenal says Africa's richest man
Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote – Africa’s richest man – who coveting the London soccer team since mid-80s has plans to make an offer to buy Arsenal after completing a refinery in Nigeria.
And the first order of business for the Nigerian billionaire if he succeeds in buying English Premier League soccer club will be to fire the manager, Arsene Wenger, said Bloomberg.
“The first thing I would change is the coach,” Dangote said. “He has done a good job, but someone else should also try his luck.”
Since the departure of Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson, Wenger became Europe’s longest serving manager but during the last Premier League season, he faced mounting criticism over the team’s performance.
Arsenal’s biggest shareholder is American billionaire Stan Kroenke, who controls almost 67 percent of the company and also owns the National Football League’s Los Angeles Rams. Earlier this year, Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, who already holds a 30 percent stake, sought to buy out Kroenke in an offer that valued Arsenal at as much as 2 billion pounds ($2.6 billion), Bloomberg said.
Dangote, 60, doubts he’d have trouble persuading Kroenke and Usmanov to sell.
