Activist Urges India To Stop Using Mauritius As A Tool For Spying

A Mauritian activist demonstrated in solo in front of the Parliament in Mauritius asking the Prime Minister of India to stop using ‘my country for spying’.

The woman, Padma Utchana, is known for her activism against what she calls Indian interference in local politics in Mauritius.

She is outraged at the recent allegations of Indian spying on Mauritian soil, using the Mauritius Telecoms as a hacking tool to potentially spy on other countries.

Below, in her poster, she is urging Indian PM Modi to stop using Mauritius as a spying tool, adding that “Mauritius is not a state of India. Go home!”

In another banner, seen here with a man who joined the lady in her fight right in front of the Mauritius Parliament (seen behind in the picture) she calls upon the Indian High Commissioner Mrs K. Nandini Singla, to also go home.

“Mauritius is a peaceful nation, peaceful country. India is slowly chipping away into our territorial integrity, taking land from us (reference to Agalega Island),” she says.

She adds that she does not want her country to be in the middle of a geopolitical fight and that India should stop using Mauritius for its global and geopolitical expansion.
