My vote is for the MMM: The mess made by the MSM-ML

The party of Pravind and SAJ failed the people, missed all their deadlines, ignored their promises and violated the institutions…vote them again?

It will be a historic win for the Jugnauth clan if the MSM-ML were to win the general elections in November. But we have reasons to believe it is a long shot.

The early poll sequence shows a bottom place for the MSM-ML among the big parties in the country with 67 parties registered for the elections.

Early online polls give the MMM 41 per cent of support, the Labour Party 29-30 per cent and the MSM-ML 26-28 per cent.

At first glance, it is not surprising to see the MMM leading the pack in the TOP FM poll. But the surprise is the MSM-ML scoreline.

If they get that much votes in the November 7 elections, it will confirm the 2014 trend of a shift in electoral support for some bigger parties. The MSM alone is traditionally a ‘parasite’ party that rides on the popularity of other parties.

It did so with the Labour and PMSD from 1983 to 1987. It then changed host, to benefit from the huge popularity of the MMM in 1991 and 2000.

But 2014 was a landmark victory for the MSM, winning the elections and becoming the biggest political formation in Mauritius.

Nevertheless, its poor stint in power with the litany of errors and misfits in its formation meant it did not live up to the promises it made and the hopes the people had on the Alliance Le Pep.

DESTROYING BAI

The Alliance came to power with an agenda to repeat the 1983-1991 ‘economic miracle’. Instead of working towards that, it gave itself a mission to destroy the British American Insurance group.

Now, the BAI boss is attacking the MSM-ML regime, saying they clearly had a plan to rob his company.

But the entire episode is a bad episode for thousands fo people who invested in schemes promoted by the group. They are planning demonstrations against the MSM-ML to get their money back.

This will impact the Alliance Mauricien the MSM-ML has crafted for the Nov polls.

FAILING THE PEOPLE

The BAI episode aside, the MSM-ML failed in its promises to revive the economy and recreate the boon it thought it was the only one responsible for.

The economic boom of the 1983-1991 era was not the sole work of the Jugnauth leadership. It had a series of circumstances in its favour and Mauritius was ripe for the changes it brought.

The short stint of the MMM with Paul Berenger as Minister of Finance also helped boost the chances for the MSM-Labour to create the economic boom.

Now, we are hearing how the MSM-ML has missed most of its deadlines in the few promises they tried to push forward.

Roads, reforms, economic development and other ‘blue ocean’ strategies are still lagging while money was being spent à gogo elsewhere, in ‘trous sans fonds’.

We have seen the video of the alleged Serenitygate scandal, the Maradiva money troubles, the bailing of some big firms or persons close to the MSM-ML and so on.

There are other scandals that may blow in their faces in the run-up to the elections. These will only shift the vote away from the MSM-ML despite the ‘new promises’ they are throwing at the public.

ABUSE OF POWER

There has been a series of abuse of power under the MSM-ML. They cannot deny it though they are showing smiling faces to tell the people they did no wrong.

Let’s not talk of the abuse of Parliamentary protocols, the biased speaker of the house (or plainly the most unprofessional and unintelligent speaker in history), the attempts to abuse the DPP and reduce its powers, the laws that they passed giving the PM more powers to abuse…and the list is long.

All these makeup gross abuses that our democracy has not seen since the 1971 era.

It is not strange though, that Sir Anerood Jugnauth is the ‘Mentor’ of the Pravind Jugnauth cabinet and such abuses occurred.

SAJ’s reign as PM is also littered with abuses and crackdowns on liberty, freedom and the media.

The son is following the same footsteps but in a more comical manner.

CLOWNS IN THE KITCHEN

Everybody with a sense of understanding in Mauritius knows the centre of power is not the Cabinet or the Government House.

It is the ‘kitchen’ or the ‘cuisine’ where the close buddies of the PM and his dad meets and decide on the country’s future.

This is very serious as it shifts the power base of the country from the legislative body and the cabinet into the hands of a few ‘Tonton Macoute’.

This is the level of clownery and stupidity that the country has fallen. Instead of using the proper established channels to run the country, they started a parallel power base.

This alone should be sanctioned heavily, with a massive defeat for the MSM-ML, but with 28 per cent of polled people out of a sampling of almost 1000, we have reasons to believe the comical means used by the MSM-ML is accepted by a large portion of our population.
