Russia To Cut Ties With The US Over Terror Label

The Russian Foreign Ministry warned that diplomatic ties between the two countries will likely completely break down if the hawks in the US Congress succeed in having Washington label Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.

“We can cope if Washington decides to completely halt all communication with Moscow. There should be no question about it, said Maria Zakharova, the ministry’s spokeswoman, addressed journalists during a briefing.

Senator Lindsey Graham is one of the lawmakers who supports the idea of adding Russia to the list of countries to be avoided.

The Senate last week approved a non-binding resolution urging the US Department of State to make such a move.

Russia and Myanmar?

Sergei Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, arrived in Myanmar on Wednesday morning to meet with junta officials of the troubled nation.

Moscow is attempting to reorient the nation toward the Middle East, Asia, and Africa as relations with the West over the intervention in Ukraine deteriorate.

The foreign minister and leadership of the [junta] will be the subject of discussions, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told reporters on Tuesday.

She stated that, among other things, cooperation in security and defence would be discussed.

Since the coup in Myanmar last year, Russia and its ally China have been charged with providing the junta with weaponry used to assault civilians.

Since the coup on February 1, 2021, more than 2,000 citizens have been slain during a military crackdown.

Russia backs the Myanmar junta’s efforts to “stabilize” the crisis-wracked country, its foreign minister said on Wednesday during talks with top generals, according to Russian state media.
