Rohingya Man Only Wants To Get Out Of Here!

SYDNEY: Yesterday night, at 8.30 pm (June 22), in Wacana Sinar aired by Sinar Harian there was a live discussion on issue of the Rohingya refugees.

Titled “Between Humanity and Sovereignty” a Rohyingya man living in Malaysia for the past 29 years was once again the subject of criticism.

Speaking to the media, he says he is the victim of a campaign that wants people to believe he is antagonistic.

“Again and again I was accused of demanding equal rights for Rohingya and other rights. I deny making this statement and the denial is ignored, resulting in me and my family members receiving continuous death threats,” he says.

“I feel very sad that I continuously become the victim of false accusations and hate speech,” he says, without showing any anger or hate for the Malaysians.

He requests that the local and international media fight such false accusations as well as hate speech and xenophobia.

RESETTLEMENT

He says he is still waiting for the United Nations to take heed of his situation and to find an exit strategy for him and his family from Malaysia. His wife is a Malaysian citizen.

“The only durable solution for me to survive is the resettlement to a third country. Through the resettlement, I will be free from this situation, a situation that is causing the deteriorating of my physical health, mental health and well-being.

“According to UNHCR, the decisions related to resettlement do not lie with UNHCR alone but also with the resettlement countries,” he says.
