Truss meets with Malaysian Foreign Minister

Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato Saifuddin Abdullah met with the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom (UK) Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Truss, on November 8.

It is her inaugural visit to Malaysia. The Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Truss and her Malaysian counterpart took stock of the progress in the long-standing relations between Malaysia and the UK, and potential areas of collaboration in the post-pandemic era.

The discussion touched on issues related to regional security, the situation in Myanmar, Commonwealth
issues and climate change.

The Rt. Hon. Elizabeth Truss is also scheduled to call on Prime Minister, Dato Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to exchange views on bilateral cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Malaysia and the United Kingdom are longstanding partners with multi-faceted cooperation, including close people to people links. In 2020, the trade volume between Malaysia and the United Kingdom was recorded at RM16.69 billion, an increase of 1.4% compared to the corresponding period in 2019 (RM16.46 billion).
