KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Lumpur is ready to become a major player in the regional entertainment industry by cutting bureaucracy and accelerating approvals for international events.

Minister for Federal Territories, Hannah Yeoh, has directed Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to fast-track applications to ensure the capital remains a preferred destination for global organizers.

“Time is money, speed is currency. We cannot just sit and wait for things to happen,” Yeoh said at the launch of ‘KL Headline Season 2026’ at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Highlighting the economic impact of major events, Yeoh noted that Tourism Malaysia data showed the recent Water Festival in Kuala Lumpur generated RM320 million in a single weekend, drawing 100,000 international and 150,000 local visitors.

From Coldplay’s record-breaking crowd of 81,812 at Bukit Jalil to major sporting events, Yeoh emphasized that KL belongs on the global stage.

"When global events come to our city, the impact goes far beyond the stadium," she said, noting benefits for hotels, restaurants, transport drivers, and local creatives. "A vibrant city is built by experiences, creativity, and the confidence to bring people together."
